The Importance of Branding in Business Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
The Importance of Branding in Business - Essay Example Furthermore, the discussion between these five industries will analyze class, category, forms, and brands that exist within each; helping the reader to gain a further level of interpretive understanding that relates to the way in which these entities compete and exist within the current environment. Through an analysis of these metrics, the author will be able to provide the reader with a more in-depth analysis of the way in which previous scholarship has provided these markets with invaluable tools for understanding the importance that branding plays with respect to attracting customers defining consumer choice, substitutability, and competition that exists within each one of these. Though it might be understood that competition is guaranteed, the reality of the fact is that differing levels of competition create unique opportunities and help to define markets that would otherwise be incorrectly categorized. The first article that will be analyzed is entitled, ââ¬Å"From Roots Culture To Sour Fruit: The Aesthetics Of Fashion Branding Cultures in Canada." As such, the research begins with discussing the impact of class and category of this particular industry is that of consumer goods relating to fashion. However, the article quickly delves into issues of measurement with respect to the extreme diversification that exists with respect to the forms and brands of actual industries that compete within this sector. The article further denotes that this extreme competition creates an extremely differentiated hierarchy of brands and allows for an extreme level of differentiation between these offerings to be exhibited to the end consumer. Price and quality further help to define what markets will be approached and what consumers will be courted. The core boundary that exists, and is defined by the research, is with regard to the strategic players in this market and how they react to price, pre stige, and quality.Ã

Something Never Forgotten :: essays research papers
Something Never Forgotten The movie had just ended and the picture on the television set screamed black and white fuzz. My eyes shifted to the window and were greeted by the same picture as that on the television. It had begun sleeting earlier that day. Later it turned to snow, which was still pelting the white-blanketed earth. After reading the time from my watch, three-thirty a.m., I decided I should probably head for home. My mind was thinking of the basketball practice our coach had graciously scheduled for seven oââ¬â¢ clock a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, now less than three and a half-hours away. I recall saying something as I left to the effect of, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m probably going to wreck.â⬠I did not mean the words that I had said, but somehow they seemed to slip out of my mouth. My girlfriend scolded me for thinking such a thought, then sent me on my way. à à à à à There are some things in a personââ¬â¢s life he or she will never forget. For some it may be a first kiss. For others it is the delicious smell of their grandmotherââ¬â¢s kitchen as she scurried this way and that, all the while baking and mixing and clanking and cooking. Personally, I will never forget how peaceful my surroundings seemed as I stepped into the driveway that wistful morning. The snowflakes fell in beautiful crystalline shapes none the same as another. It was perfectly silent and the moon shone over the trees that lined the road. It seemed like such a perfect moment of frozen bliss. This was the exact middle of nowhere, five miles down some terrible dirt road in rustic northwestern Pennsylvania, so what did I expect? The air bit at my face and hands, yet it seemed so still. A chill ran my spine and my thoughts were lost. I had no idea what perils lay waiting for me. à à à à à My girlfriend watched from the door as her boyfriendââ¬â¢s tracks faded in the snow and the taillights of his parentsââ¬â¢ Chevy Lumina mini-van faded into the darkened road. As I had expected, the road was in terrible condition, by far the worst I had ever seen it. Extra attention surely was needed during the trip down this trail, but I was so tired and groggy. The radio was loud, and my window was rolled down, in hopes that the combination of the two would keep me from slumber.

Teen Pregnancy Analysis
Teen pregnancy has become an increasing problem over the years. Parents, teachers and teens alike all fear for the same thing, teen pregnancy. In several studies the question always remain the same what is the cause of teen pregnancy other than the obvious answer, why is this continuing to increase over the years. Parents always feel that they were not strict enough. Teachers feel that the teens are either rebellious or that they did something wrong with their teaching. Teens feel all sorts of things that adults do not always understand. The studies that will be discussed are focused on teens and what they feel the problem is that causes teens to become young mothers. The research process with the articles that I have chosen is surveying teens to find out the source of the problem. In these articles the goal is to find out the point of view of the teens and to come up with a solution to rising problem of teen pregnancy. The literature was reviewed by several peers and doctors to come up with the opinions and solutions that were revised in the article. In this weekââ¬â¢s reading of our text, it was discussed the importance of valid results, and not being biased to one side or another. It was discussed that results can differ from group to group of participants so making sure that the results are valid is important. Also, it is important to make sure that the sources are reliable as well. It would be wrong to ask parents only why they feel teen pregnancy is increasing so much being that teens are the ones involved in these studies. The ethical considerations for data collection is not to violate the teens right to have their voices heard with out having to fear what their parents will know about their sex life. An article in the Apollo library titled ââ¬Å"Rural teen pregnancy reflections who will Listen? â⬠discusses a study that was done on teens with surveying the teens in many different schools to find where this problem stems from. It is determined that most teens feel that they have a lack of information on teen pregnancy and sexual awareness, until hitting high school, which in many cases is too late to receive this information. A series of questions were asked in survey form, teens felt they were receiving information too late and they were self educated themselves long before they learned it from school, or their parents. With media being as violent, and sexual content today that we did not have twenty years ago, kids are curious about sex at younger ages, some even in elementary school. The data that was collected was taken straight from the affected age and targeted different reasons that effect teen pregnancy. They asked a question that was thought to be the reason and asked open ended questions as well meaning questions that do not have a yes or no answer but ones where the teens were forced to give their opinions. In this study the teenââ¬â¢s names were not given, the goal was not to know who the teens were, but to know what can be done to make the awareness of this problem known to teens and their parents. Another study that was performed in this article was on teen a parent who shows that many teen parents do not finish high school and live their adult lives in poverty. Teens who have troubled homes are more likely to become teen parents looking for that security that they have lacked at home, building their own family will give them the love they desire in their mind but they are likely to neglect and or abuse their child or children not intentionally but just out of lack of knowing how to care for their child, when they are still children themselves. Another result of this study reviewed that most teen parents do not marry the father or mother of the baby and the ones that do end in divorce in most cases. Many teen parents will be single parents within the first two years of the childââ¬â¢s life. The end result also proves that teens will have higher risk pregnancies and premature, under nourished babies will be born for lack of knowledge of how to take care of a baby in the womb. Another result of this is because the teen motherââ¬â¢s body was not ready for the change of having a baby. Many health problems in the child and motherââ¬â¢s life results from this as well such as possible asthma in the baby and osteoporosis at an early age for the mother. There are many reasons found in these studies over a few weeks time that teens did not realize to be an issue. From the teens point of view the main issue that was found was that they are not aware of precautions from teen pregnancies and resources that are available to them such as free birth control from the local health department and teen counseling services to encourage practicing safe sex and abstinence as well as lack of information on how pregnancies happen. It has been proven from these studies that these discussion need to occur in middle school or even elementary school. This study showed more statistics that have been proven throughout the years. The end result also proves that teens will have higher risk pregnancies and premature, under nourished babies will be born for lack of knowledge of how to take care of a baby in the womb. Another result of this is because the teen motherââ¬â¢s body was not in the child and motherââ¬â¢s life results from this as well such as possible asthma in the baby and osteoporosis at an early age for the mother. In both studies, the results were determined by questionnaires to teens and teen mothers to determine what the cause of teen pregnancy in their mind was. There have always been theories that teens donââ¬â¢t care about using protection, or that they want to be pregnant but these studies have confirmed that this is not always the case. This case study was a hard one to do at first because teens do not want their friends to pick on them in school for their answers or that they participated so once the barrier was broken there, the case study could be done effectively. The end result was successful because it gave teachers, parents, doctors and teens the tools they needed to change this. The hope is that over the next few years teen pregnancy will decrease dramatically. These health problems are caused because the teen mothersââ¬â¢ body is not fully developed so their body is not ready to bear the weight a pregnant women must bear. In conclusion, the data showed to be effective in both forms of research in both articles. The first article took the approach of survey research for the targeted group which is teens to find a cause of the problem which seems to be a lack of communication between teens and adults, and also a lack of information soon enough for teens. In the other article medical research was done to prove that teen mothers are more likely to develop bone problems earlier in life as their bones were not ready for the pressure a pregnancy causes. Another source that was used in this analysis was the census of teen mothers that drop out of high school and live in poverty trying to upport their children. This trend seems to pass down the genetic line as these homes become problem homes as well and the teens just want love they lacked growing up. Therapy has proven to change this trend as the children of teen mothers need to know how to cope with living in poverty, feeling rejection from their fathers or mothers, and dealing with not seeing their parent as often as their peers as most teen par ents work at least two jobs to provide for their children and still remain in poverty. These problems are being addressed and teen pregnancy is estimated to decrease as more and more resources are becoming available to target teens and warn them of what it really is like being a teen parent. I feel that both of these articles give ample information to effectively make decisions on the studies because there are several teens involved as well as medical studies to support the analysis that was determined. What Is the Eye of the Sahara
The Blue Eye of the Sahara, also known as the Richat Structure or the Guelb er Richat, is a geological formation in the Sahara Desert that resembles an enormous bullseye. The formation stretchesà across a 40 kilometer-wide region of the desert in the nation of Mauritania.à Key Takeaways: The Eye of the Sahara The Eye of the Sahara, also known as the Richat Structure, is a geologic dome containing rocks that predate the appearance of life on Earth.à The Eye resembles a blue bullseye and is located in Western Sahara. It is visible from space and has been used as a visual landmark by astronauts.à Geologists believe that the Eyes formation began when the supercontinent Pangaea started to pull apart.à For centuries, only a few local nomadic tribes knew about the formation. It was first photographed in the 1960s by theà Gemini astronauts, who used it as a landmarkà to track the progress of their landing sequences.à Later,à the Landsat satelliteà took additional images and provided information about the size, height, and extent of the formation. Geologists originally believed that Eye of the Sahara was an impact crater, created when an object from space slammed into the surface. However, lengthy studies of the rocks inside the structure show that its origins are entirely Earth-based. A Unique Geological Wonder Geologists have concluded that the Eye of the Sahara is a geologic dome. The formation contains rocks that are at least 100 million years old; some date back to well before the appearance of life on Earth. These rocks include igneous (volcanic) depositsà as well as sedimentary layers that form as the wind pushes layers of dust and water deposits sand and mud. Today, geologists can find several types of igneous rock in the area of the eye, including kimberlite,à carbonatites, black basalts (similar to what can be seen in the Big Island of Hawaii), and rhyolites. Millions of years ago, volcanic activity from deep beneath Earths surface liftedà the entire landscape around the Eye. These regions were not deserts, as they are today. Instead, they were likely much more temperate, with abundant flowing water.à Layered sandstone rocks were deposited by blowing winds and on the bottoms of lakes and rivers during the temperate. The subsurface volcanic flow eventually pushed up the overlying layers of sandstone and other rocks. After the volcanism died down, wind and water erosion began to eat away at the domed layers of rock. The region began to settle down and collapse in on itself, creating the roughly circular eye feature. Traces of Pangaea The ancient rocks within the Eye of the Sahara have provided researchers with information about its origins. The earliest formation of the Eye began when the supercontinent Pangaeaà began to pull apart. As Pangaea broke up, the Atlantic Ocean waters began to flow into the region.à While Pangaea was slowly pulling apart, magma from deep beneath the surface began to push up from the Earths mantle, whichà formed a circle-shaped rocky dome surrounded by layers of sandstone. As erosion took its toll on the igneous rocks and sandstones, and as the dome subsided, circular ridges were left behind, giving the Richat Structure its sunken circular shape. Today, the eye is somewhat sunken below the level of the surrounding landscapes.à Seeing the Eye Western Sahara no longer has the temperate conditions that existed during the Eyes formation. However, it is possible to visit the dry, sandy desert that the Eye of the Sahara calls homeââ¬âbut its not a luxurious trip. Travelers must first gain access to a Mauritanian visa and find a local sponsor. Once admitted, tourists are advised to make local travel arrangements. Some entrepreneurs offer airplane rides or hot air balloon trips over the Eye, giving visitors a birds-eye view. The Eye is located near the town of Oudane, which is a car ride away from the structure, and there is even a hotel inside the Eye.à The Future of the Eye The Eye of the Saharaà attracts both tourists and geologists, whoà flock to the Eye to study the unique geological feature in person.à However, because the Eye is located in a sparsely inhabited region of the desert with very little water or rainfall, it is not under much threat from humans. That leaves the Eye open to the vagaries of nature. The ongoing effects of erosion threaten the landscape, just as they do other places on the planet. Desert winds may well bring more dunes to the region, particularly as climate change causes increased desertification in the area. Its quite possible that, in the distant future, the Eye of the Sahara will be inundated with sand and dust. Future travelers may find only a windswept desert burying one of the most striking geological features on the planet.
